MOHAN Foundation had the privilege of conducting a Seminar on Organ Donation on April 30, 2025, at Vijaya College of Nursing, Chennai. The session was attended by approximately 110 students who gathered in the seminar hall to deepen their understanding of this life-saving cause. Resource persons were from MOHAN Foundation.
The seminar began with an interactive session led by Mr. Ganesh C, who introduced the concept of organ and tissue donation. He engaged the students in a lively discussion, explaining who can donate, what organs and tissues can be donated, when and how the process occurs, and the significance of donation. Mr. Ganesh also elaborated on brain death, organ and tissue donation procedures, and voluntary body donation. The session concluded with a video presentation that illustrated the concept of brain death and highlighted the importance of grief counselling.
Following this, a quiz on the concepts discussed was conducted by Ms. Sangeetha K. The students actively participated, answering questions with energy and interest, thereby reinforcing their learning in a fun and engaging manner.
To emphasize the complexity of deceased organ donation, an activity-based learning session was conducted by Dr. Hemal Kanvinde. The activity, titled “10-Step Protocol for a Successful Deceased Organ Donation,” saw enthusiastic participation from students and provided a deeper understanding of the step-by-step process involved. This case followed by a case discussions.
The seminar concluded with a session by Mrs. Kavitha Aneesh, who spoke about the training programs offered by MOHAN Foundation, the registration process, and the crucial role of transplant coordinators in the organ donation and transplantation process.
A vote of thanks was delivered by a student representative, expressing heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the participants. As a token of appreciation, Dr. Hemal Kanvinde, presented the Principal with two of MOHAN Foundation’s publications: “Kidney Transplantation: Before and Aftercare” and 50th edit of Indian Transplant Newsletter.
MOHAN Foundation wholeheartedly thanks Vijaya College of Nursing and Mrs. Sangeetha (Associate Professor) for organizing and facilitating this impactful seminar. Their support played a vital role in spreading awareness and inspiring future healthcare professionals to become advocates for organ donation.
