MOHAN Foundation Promotes Organ Donation at RYLA Program in Rishikesh

  • On April 26, 2025, MOHAN Foundation was invited as a guest speaker on organ donation by the Rotary Club Rishikesh Divas during the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) program held at Government Inter College, Khadri Khadakmaaf, Rishikesh, Uttarakhand. The invitation was extended by Ms. Tanu Jain, President of the Club.

     

    The RYLA program offers young students intensive leadership experiences, helping them build essential skills while learning from community leaders, inspirational speakers, and peer mentors.

     

    Mr. Sanchit Arora, Project Leader at MOHAN Foundation stationed at AIIMS Rishikesh, delivered the session on organ donation, which was attended by students and staff of the college. He began by engaging participants in a discussion on their existing knowledge of the subject, and then addressed the following key points:

    • The meaning and significance of organ donation

    • Eligibility criteria for organ donors

    • Difference between living and deceased donation

    • Organs and tissues that can be donated during life and after death

    • Brain death vs. coma

    • Eye and skin donation, including how to preserve corneas after death

    • Overview of the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act, 1994

    • Whole-body donation

    • Living kidney transplant services at AIIMS Rishikesh

    • Myths and facts about organ donation

    • Steps individuals can take to support the cause

    • The mission of MOHAN Foundation and its Anudaan initiative

    • MOHAN Foundation’s 24/7 organ donation helpline

     

    Mr. Arora emphasized the critical need for organ donation in India and encouraged attendees to initiate conversations about it with their families and peers. He also recommended the film Aye Zindagi on Zee5 as a valuable resource for further understanding the subject.

     

    Ms. Jain underscored the message that there is no greater gift than organ donation and urged everyone to pledge to donate blood during their lifetime and organs after death.

     

    The session concluded on a high note, with participants applauding the efforts of MOHAN Foundation and the Rotary Club. Several students expressed their willingness to speak to their families and take steps toward pledging for organ donation.

     

    The session was attended by approximately 100 participants.
