

On August 3, 2024, on the occasion of National Organ donation Day, SOTTO Uttar Pradesh and Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI), Lucknow held a Dissemination Seminar on 'Brain Stem death declaration: Way to Augment Deceased donation'. As part of this event, they invited Ms. Jaya Jairam to speak on 'Grief Counselling and Making the Ask for organ donation'. The session was chaired by Dr Anu Behari, Col. Varun Bajpai and Dr Sanjoy Kumar Sureka. Ms Jaya Jairam presented her talk virtually. Representatives from 6 Government medical colleges in UP attended the day-long program. Trans[lant Coordinators from all Transplant centers were all present too. In all, 170 participants attended the program.
She covered various aspects of what a family's expectations are when they have just experienced a traumatic loss. She also went on to speak on who, where, when and how one should make the ask. At the end of the session, it was discussed whether the doctors should be involved in the act of making the ask or should they stay away when the ask is being made.
