Residents of Porur, Chennai Support Organ Donation

  • MOHAN Foundation was invited to conduct an awareness program on Organ Donation on 17th February 2018 at 11 AM in Appaswamy Platina Apartments at Porur. Mr. Siva Shankar, Helpline Executive was deputed for the session. The invitation had been extended by a coordinator from Palam Foundation.

    The session started with Mr Siva Shankar explaining the history of MOHAN Foundation, followed by the concepts of Organ Donation. He then spoke on the following topics:

    • Organ Donation and its need
    • The organs that could be donated
    • Types of Donors
    • Brain Death and its causes
    • Transplant Law and the Government Authority
    • Helpline number

    The session went on for about 1 hour and there were around 20 residents from the apartments present. The following were some questions asked by the participants:

    • If there are two patients waiting in a hospital for an organ, how does organ allocation happen?
    • Who allocates organs?
    • Why organs are not retrieved after natural death?

    MOHAN Foundation is thankful to Palam Foundation for coordinating the session with the residents of Appaswamy Apartments.
