Updated on Thursday, October 2, 2025
  • On September 15, 2025, a special radio awareness program on organ donation was broadcast in the Kokborok version at 11:00 a.m. on 101.6 FM and 1269 MHz AM. The Bengali version of the program aired on September 22, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. on the same frequencies.

The programs featured interviews conducted by Ms. Meena Kumari Debbarma (Kokborok) and Ms. Ankita Singha Rai (Bengali). The interviewees included Mr. Vincent Debbarma (Project Lead, Tripura) for the Kokborok version and Ms. Nipa Modok (Program Executive, Tripura) for the Bengali version.

Both speakers emphasized the importance of raising awareness about brain death and its distinction from coma, explained the types of organs and tissues that can be donated (including the eyes), and encouraged greater public participation in this life-saving cause. They also outlined the process of pledging for organ donation through Akashvani Agartala, stressing the crucial role of youth and volunteers in sensitizing families and communities. Additionally, they highlighted MOHAN Foundation’s initiatives in Tripura, including its collaborations with Agartala Government Medical College & Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital (AGMC & GBP Hospital) to promote deceased organ donation in the state.

With Akashvani Agartala’s extensive outreach, especially across remote regions of Tripura, the broadcast is estimated to have covered nearly 40% of the state’s population. This initiative successfully carried the message of organ donation to thousands of listeners, helping to dispel myths and foster a culture of organ donation in Tripura.
