An Organ Donation Information Desk was set up on Sunday, April 26, 2026, during the Blood Donation Camp organised by Holy Family Church, Porvorim, Goa, in collaboration with Loving Hearts Goa and the North Goa District Hospital, Asilo Blood Bank. The camp commenced at 9:30 a.m. and concluded at 12:30 p.m.
Before the event, announcements were made to parishioners, encouraging voluntary participation. The response was encouraging, with approximately 27 individuals coming forward to donate blood, thereby helping save lives through this noble act.
Loving Hearts Goa, a dedicated group of regular voluntary blood donors, played a vital role in supporting individuals in need of blood. During the camp, Gabriel addressed the donors, expressing gratitude for their selfless contribution and emphasising the life-saving importance of blood donation.
In addition, Gabriel highlighted the significance of organ donation. He explained that one organ donor can save up to eight lives and enhance the lives of around 50 others through tissue donation. He elaborated that while living donations—such as a kidney or a portion of the liver—are possible, they are typically limited to family members. However, in cases of brain death caused by road traffic accidents, brain haemorrhage, or severe head trauma, multiple organs can be donated, offering hope to many patients.
To further educate the donors, Gabriel addressed 30 frequently asked questions and distributed informational flyers containing QR codes. These allowed individuals to learn more and register as organ donors after understanding the concept.
It was also highlighted that in Goa, 83 individuals are currently awaiting kidney transplants. Furthermore, it was noted that only kidney and cornea transplants are presently conducted in the state, and this is facilitated through four licensed hospitals.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks, where Gabriel expressed his appreciation to Rev. Fr. Adolf Alvares, the Parish Priest and Rev. Fr. Boris Dias, Assistant Parish Priest, and the team of Loving Hearts Goa for providing MOHAN Foundation the opportunity to be part of this meaningful initiative.
The event successfully combined blood donation with awareness on organ donation, reinforcing the message of saving and enhancing lives through collective community effort.
