On July 3 and 4, 2026, RYA Cosmo Foundation Hospital, Otteri, in collaboration with MOHAN Foundation, conducted a two-day awareness campaign on organ and tissue donation at the hospital's Outpatient Department (OPD). MOHAN Foundation partnered as the knowledge partner for the initiative, aiming to educate patients, caregivers, and hospital visitors about the importance of organ and tissue donation.
An information desk functioned from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on both days, where educational brochures and green ribbons were distributed to promote awareness about organ and tissue donation. Patients, attendants, and hospital staff visited the desk to learn more about donation and clarify their doubts.
The first day of the campaign coincided with a free eye camp organized by RYA Cosmo Foundation Hospital, during which nearly 70 individuals underwent eye examinations and were screened for cataract surgery. The event provided an excellent opportunity to address several frequently asked questions from participants. Common queries included whether individuals undergoing cataract surgery could still donate their eyes, whether poor eyesight affected eligibility for eye donation, and whether people with diabetes or hypertension could pledge their corneas.
Ms. Janani, Intern, and Ms. Kanishka, Project Executive, from MOHAN Foundation actively engaged with visitors by providing accurate information on organ and tissue donation. Ms. Kanishka also conducted focused awareness on cornea donation, explaining who can donate, the eye donation process, how to contact an eye bank after death, and the simple steps family members can take to help ensure successful cornea retrieval.
Over the two-day campaign, around 100 individuals were sensitized to the importance of organ and tissue donation. Encouragingly, 9 individuals pledged to donate their corneas, expressing their commitment to helping restore sight to those in need.
