Organ donation awareness session conducted at Somaiya Nursing College, Sion, Mumbai on the occasion of Nursing Day

  • On 12th May 2018, MOHAN Foundation Mumbai was invited at Somaiya Nursing College, Sion, Mumbai to conduct an awareness talk on Organ Donation for the nursing staffs on occasion of ‘Nursing Day’

     

    Introductions were made by Mrs. Gauri Shambhum, Matron, of nursing staff whereby she addressed the nurses, encouraging them to continue doing the wonderful work of taking care of all patients. Mrs. Jigisha Yadav, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation Mumbai then started the awareness session by briefing the audience about MOHAN Foundation, its mission, vision and history.

     

    When asked as to what came to their minds when they thought of Organ Donation, there were mixed responses- some positive as well as some negative responses. The concept of organ donation was introduced, types of organs and tissues that can be donated, types of death, the concept of brain death, difference between brain death and comma. She also explained the myths and facts regarding organ donation. Information about organ allocation, and distribution were also shared. Toll Free No of MOHAN Foundation was introduced.

     

    There were almost 80 nurses and 45 of them took the pledge. We thank Mrs.Gauri Shambhu, Matron and Mrs. Avani Oke, Principal for inviting us and supporting the cause of Organ Donation.
