Organ Donation Ambassador, Dr Asha Shitole of Kolhapur Maharashtra has been promoting organ donation for the past two years through her social network groups. This year she along with a group of medical professionals participated in a pilgrimage (vari) to Pandharpur. This involves walking on from your own home to the town of Pandharpur, visiting the Vithala temple and returning to your home. During the time of pilgrimage, the pilgrims recite Bhagvad Gita, live on whatever is offered to them and help others in need.
500 doctors took part in this pilgrimage. The walk starts early in the morning and in the evening the pilgrims take rest in guest houses and in tents. During the resting time Dr Asha did a one act show on the Concepts of Organ Donation. This was done on June 24, 2023. For many pilgrims this was the first time they heard of organ donation. The doctors were appreciative of her passion to create awareness.
