On March 19th, the MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session on tissue and organ donation at Toshniwal Ingersoll Rand, Irungattukottai, for factory workers and staff. The session saw active participation from approximately 150 attendees. Informational brochures and green ribbons were distributed to promote awareness and encourage conversations around organ donation.
The program began with a short film on organ donation by Director Vijay, offering participants a clear introduction to the concept and significance of organ donation.
Ms. Kanishka, Project Executive, followed with an insightful session on cornea donation. She explained corneal blindness, its causes, and risk factors—particularly in factory environments—and highlighted important preventive measures. She also addressed common myths and misconceptions, helping participants gain a better understanding of cornea donation.
Mrs. Arshiya, Senior Project Executive, delivered a detailed session on organ donation. She discussed various types of organ donation, relevant legal frameworks, and clarified the distinction between brain death and coma. She also explained why only tissues can be donated after circulatory death and guided participants through the process of pledging. Her session effectively dispelled several common misconceptions surrounding organ donation.
The session concluded with a motivational video featuring Ahmed Hussain, a heart transplant recipient, which inspired attendees to consider pledging for organ donation.
Participants remained actively engaged throughout the session. Notably, several individuals had already pledged for organ and cornea donation, reflecting growing awareness and a positive shift in attitudes toward donation.
The MOHAN Foundation extends its sincere gratitude to Mr. S. M. Vinod, Manager – Facilities, for his valuable support and coordination in successfully organizing the event.
