Organ Donation talk at Lata Mangeshkar hospital in Burdi,Nagpur

  • On October 13,2023 the MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session on Organ Donation for Nursing & Administrative staff at Lata Mangeshkar Hospital, Burdi, Nagpur. Dr. Harsh Deshmukh, Medical Superintendent at  Lata Mangeshkar Hospital approached MOHAN Foundation’s office Nagpur to conduct the session. Mr. Bulu Behrea, Transplant coordinator conducted the session.

    Mr.Bulu began the session by explaining the current rate of organ donation and the gap between the demand and supply of organs. He then explained the basic concepts of organ donation and transplantation with the help of a PowerPoint presentation. The following topics were explained in detail:

    • Organ donation and its need in society
    • Who can donate an organ?
    • When and how does organ donation take place
    • Organs that can be donated during life and after death
    • Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994
    • Transplant waiting list in India
    • Brain death
    • Difference between coma and brain death
    • Eye donation
    • Role of MOHAN Foundation
    • Myths and facts about organ donation

    Overall the session was very interactive where participants curiously contributed to the discussion & asked many queries. 

    1) What is the registration process for organ donation?

    2) What are the job criteria after training?

    3) What are the criteria for organ priority?

    Approximately 35 members attended the session & 4 of them pledged for the Eye donation & organ donation.
