Organ Donation sensitization program for Administrative Staff of Meenakshi Mission Hospital

  • MOHAN Foundation organized a sensitization program on Organ Donation by Meenakshi Mission Hospital & Research Centre, Madurai on 21st February 2018 at 12 PM. Mr. Ruban Victor, Marketing Manager and Mr. Siva Shankar, Helpline Executive of MOHAN Foundation were deputed for the session.

    Dr. K. Sampath Kumar Senior Consultant & HOD, Department of nephrology, Meenakshi Mission Hospital welcomed the staff of MOHAN Foundation. He explained the need of Organ Donation and he appreciated his team for doing transplants so far in the hospital, and he needs his hospital staff to know in detail about the concepts of Organ donation.

    That was followed by the felicitation to MOHAN Foundation staff Mr. Ruban Victor and Mr. Siva Shankar by Dr. N. Mohan, Senior Consultant, Department of Surgical and Gastroenterology; he further appreciated the activities of MOHAN Foundation. 

    The session was then continued by Mr. Siva Shankar by explaining the concepts of organ donation and the need for organ donation in our country. He explained that the organ donation rate in our country is really low compared to other countries. He further explained the organs that can be donated and about government authority called TRANSTAN who allocates the organs to the recipient waiting in the waitlist to get an organ.

    The session then took over by Mr. Ruban Victor explaining the protocol that is followed in the hospital when there is a brain death patient in a hospital. By that he shared the duties of the transplant coordinator and the team of doctors when this situation happens. The entire session went on for 1 hour.

    Dr. Srinivasan Ramachandran, Consultant, Department of Gastroenterology thanked MOHAN Foundation for sharing the concepts of Organ Donation and Protocol and conducting the sensitization.
