Organ Donation awareness talk at Maharani Vidyawati Devi ITI for Women

  • On 08, November 2023, MOHAN Foundation delivered an awareness talk at Punjab Association’s Maharani Vidyawati Devi ITI for Women – a tailoring unit housed in premises of Gill Adarsh School in Royapettah, Chennai. The audience was a group of 19 female students and 2 staff of sewing technology and embroidery. 

    Ms. Arshiya Fathima H and Dr. Hemal Kanvinde from the Foundation were the resource persons. All students were given green ribbons and requested to fill up a survey form. The session started off with the participants filling out a survey on awareness about organ donation.

    Dr Hemal Kanvinde gave an idea of the work of MOHAN Foundation. Ms. Arshiya began the session on the role of MOHAN Foundation followed by her talk on the Concepts of Organ Donation. She spoke of the need for organs, what and when donation can happen. She explained brain death, and the difference between brain death and coma. She spoke of tissue and voluntary body donation and explained the myths & scams on organ donation. She also gave information on the free service of Organ Donation Helpline 1800 103 7100.

    At the end of the session few asked their queries and few shared their view on organ donation. 

    1. Will my body get disfigured when I donate my organs?  
    2. There is a belief that Muslims cannot donate organs, then what will we do?
    3. Are there any health issues for a living donor after donation?
