Organ Donation awareness at the office of CB CID, Chennai

  • On 18th January 2018 MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness talk on organ donation for the police personnel at the CB CID office in Chennai. This was done on invitation by senior IPS officer Dr. Jayanth Murali (Addl. Director General of Police, Crime Branch CID, Chennai.

     

    Around 150 police staff from the office attended the talk. Dr. Jayanth Murali spoke on the importance of understanding the concept and his own story of inspiration to pledge his organs.  Mr. Periyanayagam,  Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation deputed at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital gave a comprehensive lecture on the concepts of organ donation. This was followed by a short talk on the "Role of Police in Deceased Organ donation"  by Ms. Sunitha Velankanni, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation deputed at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital.

     

    There was a lot of interaction after both the talks, few of the topics discussed were about postmortem, time of death, need for police to come early, precautions while doing the inquests were discussed.  Why does the donor family not get any benefits? The Law and the government orders were also discussed. The police said that they shall follow only the law and not the government orders.

     

    At the end of the session, Dr. Hemal Kanvinde thanked the police for their time and the ADGP, Dr. Jayanth Murali  for organising this interaction.
