Ms. S. Ramya, an Angel of Change conducted "Social marketing program on Organ donation" as a part of her experimental study on January 26th 2017 from 4.15pm to 5.30 pm. The program was conducted for school teachers working at Minerva Higher Secondary School, Kadichambadi, Kumbakonam(TK), Thanjavur(DT), Tamil Nadu.
Fifty six teachers attended the program. Concept of organ donation, Types of donors, organs that can be donated, brain death, need for organ donation, religion & organ donation, THOA-1994, organ allocation, about MOHAN foundation, celebrities who endorsed organ donation, current news about organ donation in Tamil newspapers, need for family discussion and ways to start discussion etc, were all explained to them.
She explained the importance of creating awareness among teachers. She said that as teachers they are motivators for their family members, their neighbours, school students. Teachers were attentive, and gave positive response and good feedback. Twenty two teachers pledged to donate organs and picked a donor card.
Questions that were raised include difference between body donation and organ donation; contraindication for organ donation; one teacher asked whether she can donate and she is suffering from wheezing?
