Organ Donation and Transplantation talk at Collebera, Techno Park, Thiruvananthapuram

  • On 29th November, 2013 an awareness session on organ donation was organized for the staff of information technology services and solutions provider Collebera, Techno Park, Thiruvananthapuram

     

    Collabera is a fast growing, end-to-end information technology services and solutions provider.  As part of their CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) activity, Mr. Roshan Jacob, HR Manager, Collabera took an initiative and invited MOHAN Foundation to conduct an awareness programme on Organ Donation.

     

    Mr. Johnson, Project Manager, MOHAN Foundation deputed to Mrithasanjeevani, Kerala addressed the employees explained to them the various concepts related to deceased organ donation. The Short video on brain death and organ donation & transplantation how does it work in UK was screened to the participants for their better understanding.

     

    The main topics focused on during the talk were:

     

    • Blood Donation and its benefits
    • Types of Organ Donation - Live and Deceased Donation 
    • Donor Card and its importance
    • Two circumstances of death (cardiac death and brain death)
    • Role of police personnel in organ donation procedures 
    • Brain Death- how it is different from cardiac death and coma
    • Organs that can be donated after brain death and cardiac death
    • Transplantation of Human Organs Act 1994 and Rules related to declaration of brain death and Tamil Nadu Government orders
    • Age criteria of the donor and recipient and the time frame to transplant  organs
    • Kerala organ sharing registry
    • Statistics of organ donation and transplantation in Kerala

     

    All the participants pledged their organs  by picking up a donor card and some of them are ready to work as volunteers in promoting organ donation.
