Organ Donation Awareness on National Science Day

  • On the occasion of the National Science Day on 2nd March 2019, Dr. Sanjay Charalwar of Shri Mathuradas Mohota College of Science, Umred Road, Nagpur, organized an organ donation awareness program in his college. Dr. Charalwar - Principal of Mohata College of Science, Dr. (Mrs.) Rina S Saha - Vice-Principal, Dr. Sambhaji Bhansale and Dr. C.B. Talwatkar were present at the session.

    Dr. Ravi Wankhede, Director of MOHAN Foundation was the Chief Guest for the occasion. He gave information about organ donation and transplantation using a PowerPoint presentation.

    Following information was to the participants:

    • History of transplants
    • Type of deaths
    • What organs and tissues can be donated after brain death, after natural death and while living?
    • Where is waiting list available for organ failure patients?
    • Who can donate organs and the importance of donor cards?
    • MOHAN Foundation activities and website
    • Information about Organ Transplant Act 1994
    • Myths related to organ donation

    Approximately 400 students and lecturers were present and 5 of them signed consent form and received donor cards. Others informed that will sign consent forms after discussing with their families.

    A few questions asked by visitors:

    • What is the difference between coma and brain death?
    • What is bone marrow?
    • Is lung transplant is possible in Nagpur?
    • What is the body donation process?
