  • S.D.N.B Vaishnav College, Chrompet had organized a rural camp at Ottivakkam Village in the outskirts of Chengalpattu on 11th September 2012.  The students have been conducting various medical camps and awareness programmes throughout the week as part of their rural outreach programme.  For one of their activities they invited MOHAN Foundation team to give a talk to the villagers on Organ donation.

Ms.Sindhuja of  MOHAN Foundation gave a talk at the programme about the concept of brain death and organ donation after brain death. Around 35 villagers attended the talk, along with 15 college students. The villagers listened to the talk with rapt attention. They mentioned Master. Hithendran’s story that had been published in the local news paper.  A public awareness video was also played which was followed by question answer session.

The villagers were well informed about organ donation and they wanted to know if they can also do whole body donation for research purpose.  Another person at the talk also asked if organs once transplanted can be used for the second time.

At the end of the talk the group pledged to be organ donors by picking up donor cards. They also promised to spread the awareness to their friends and family.
