Updated on Thursday, July 9, 2026
  • On June 23, 2026, MOHAN Foundation conducted an organ donation awareness session at Rani Children Hospital, Ranchi, with the objective of creating awareness about the importance of organ and tissue donation among patients, their attendants, hospital staff, and visitors. A total of 32 participants attended the session and actively participated in the awareness program.

The session was conducted by Mr. Mukesh Kumar Singh from MOHAN Foundation. He explained the importance of organ donation and highlighted how one organ donor can save multiple lives by donating organs such as the heart, kidneys, liver, lungs, pancreas, and intestines, as well as tissues including the cornea, skin, and bones. He emphasized that organ donation is a selfless act that provides hope and a new lease of life to patients suffering from end-stage organ failure.

During the session, participants were educated about the different types of organ donation, including living organ donation and deceased organ donation. Special emphasis was given to the concept of brain death, its medical and legal recognition, and the process of organ retrieval and transplantation. The difference between brain death and coma was explained in simple language, enabling participants to understand the significance of timely organ donation.

The session was interactive, and participants actively raised several questions. One participant asked, "Can a person donate organs at any age?" It was explained that there is no fixed upper age limit for organ donation, as the suitability of organs depends on their medical condition rather than age alone. Another participant asked, "Is any special document required to pledge for organ donation?" The participants were informed that while no mandatory legal document is required to take the organ donation pledge, informing family members about one's decision is very important because family consent is essential in deceased organ donation. These discussions helped clarify common myths and misconceptions regarding organ donation.

Informational pamphlets and awareness materials were distributed among the attendees to reinforce the key messages shared during the session. Participants appreciated the initiative and expressed that such awareness programs are essential for increasing public knowledge and encouraging more people to support the cause of organ donation.

The session concluded with a vote of thanks to the management of Rani Children Hospital for their valuable support and cooperation in organizing the program. Overall, the awareness session was successful in educating participants, addressing their concerns, dispelling misconceptions, and inspiring them to discuss organ donation with their families and contribute to the noble cause of saving lives through organ and tissue donation.
