Organ Donation Awareness for Students and Staff of Nagarjuna College of Engineering and Technology Bengaluru

  • Mrs. Hemavathi BN, Transplant Coordinator of MOHAN Foundation coordinated with Mr. Pramod, Professor at Nagarjuna College of Engineering, Bengaluru to conduct an awareness session on 17th August 2021. The 2-hour session was attended by a total of 306 students and staff of the institution. MOHAN Foundation was represented by Mrs. Hemavathi BN and Mrs. Ranjini Shankar MS, Project Manager.

    Mrs. Ranjini Shankar MS began the session by introducing MOHAN Foundation, its mission, vision; the concept of organ and tissue donation; types of death - cardiac death and brain death; brain death declaration; and procedure of deceased and living organ donation. Mrs. Ranjini then elaborated on the procedure of eye, skin, and bone donation; briefly explained the role of Jeevasarthakathe; touched upon the transplant law and the importance of a donor card. Myths and facts and barriers to organ donation were highlighted; an overview of the green corridor concept was also shared.

    Towards the end of the session, a glimpse of the successful hand transplant of Ms. Shreya Siddanagowder was shared and a motivational video was played. A small crowd funding exercise that was carried out, received great support from the audience.

    243 people signed up as organ donors during the occasion. MOHAN Foundation is thankful to the college management for the opportunity.
