Awareness Session held on Organ Donation at Shri Narendra Tidke College, Ramtek on Independence Day

  • On 15th Aug 2021, MOHAN Foundation, in association with Transplants – Help The Poor Foundation conducted an awareness talk on organ donation at Shri Narendra Tidke College, Ramtek on the occasion of Independence Day.

    A blood donation camp had also been set up along with organ donation session under the coordination of Mr. Ambrile, NCC in-charge of Shri Narendra Tidke College, Ramtek. The session which began around 09:30 am started after the flag hoisting by Ms. Prarthana from MOHAN Foundation as chief guest.

    Ms. Prarthana introduced MOHAN Foundation and Transplants – Help The Poor Foundation. A short ice-breaker helped her understand that audience was non-medicos who had no idea about organ donation. She then explained the concepts of organ donation, why and when transplantation is required, various organs that can be donated, types of donors, types of death, viability of organs after retrieval. She also explained the difference between brain death and cardiac death. She also elaborated the Transplantation of Human Organs Act, and discussed the myths and misconceptions related to organ donation. She also briefed about skin donation, eye donation and body donation.

    Crowd asked the following few questions:

    • Difference between cardiac death and natural death?
    • Hand transplant procedure

    Ms. Prarthana answered all the queries promptly. Around 300 Teaching, Non -Teaching staff and NCC Students attended the session.
