On July 17, 2026, MOHAN Foundation, in association with Arogya Ayushman Mandir (AAM), Achanbigei, Imphal East, conducted an organ donation awareness session at Achanbigei Makha Leikai, Imphal East. The session was conducted by Ms. Moirangthem Priya Devi, Program Executive; and Mr. Elangbam Paringanba Singh, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation, Imphal. The programme was organized with the support and coordination of Mrs. Nongthombam Premabati Chanu, Community Health Officer (CHO), along with the staff of AAM, Achanbigei.
Ms. Priya commenced the session by introducing the MOHAN Foundation team. She then provided an overview of organ and tissue donation, explaining the distinction between living and deceased donation, and highlighted the shortage of deceased organ donors in Manipur and the growing gap between the demand for and availability of organs. She emphasized that organ donation offers a second chance at life for patients awaiting transplantation. She also informed participants about the availability of transplantation services in both government and private hospitals in Manipur, explained that the buying and selling of human organs and tissues is prohibited under the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act (THOTA), 1994, and addressed common misconceptions by reassuring them that organ donation does not cause disfigurement and that the dignity of every donor is always preserved.
The session was highly interactive, with participants raising several questions related to organ and tissue donation. Ms. Priya addressed each query and clarified their doubts, enabling participants to make informed decisions. Following the detailed discussion, many participants shared that the session had significantly improved their understanding of organ donation and helped dispel several misconceptions.
Following the awareness session, two participants expressed their willingness to pledge for whole body donation, while many others shared their intention to pledge for eye donation after obtaining their family's consent. During the feedback session, participants expressed their appreciation to the MOHAN Foundation team, stating that the programme had enhanced their understanding of organ donation and positively changed their perception of it.
Mrs. Premabati and Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs) also appreciated the session and expressed their interest in organizing a similar awareness programme in another village under AAM Achanbigei, so that more community members could benefit from accurate information on organ donation.
The programme concluded with Ms. Priya thanking the participants for their enthusiastic involvement and encouraging them to pledge for organ donation and discuss their decision with their family members. Informational FAQs on organ donation were distributed at the end of the session. Approximately 60 participants were reached through the awareness programme.
