Organ Donation Awareness for Railway Pensioners in Nagpur

  • On 25th September 2019, the General Secretary of the South East Central Railway Pensioners Association, Mr. J. Narayana Rao invited MOHAN Foundation to provide awareness to the members of the pensioners’ association about deceased organ donation. The event was organizes at the Railway Poly Clinic in Kamptee Road, Nagpur. Dr.Sunanda Raha, Chief Medical Officer gave a brief introduction about organ donation. Mr. Rao then introduced Dr. Ravi Wankhede, the Director of MOHAN Foundation, Nagpur.

    Dr. Wankhede gave information on the following topics to the audience:

    • What is organ donation?
    • Whom to contact for organ donation?
    • What is the THO Act?
    • What is natural death and brain death?
    • What is the eye donation process?
    • What is the process for body donation?
    • What are the causes of brain death?
    • Role of ZTCC in organ donation.
    • MOHAN Foundation activities
    • How to use website and helpline number of MOHAN Foundation

    Question asked by participants:

    • Is commercial dealing is possible in organ transplantation?
    • After death what is the time duration for body donation?

    Around 32 pensioners were present and 10 of them signed consent forms and received donor cards. At the end of the session Mr. J. Narayana Rao thanked MOHAN Foundation as well as the
