Organ Donation Awareness for Nursing students at Apollo College of Nursing

  • Nurses are one of the key people in the multidisciplinary team of organ donation and transplantation. Therefore, Ms.Veena, transplant coordinator from MOHAN Foundation, visited Apollo College of Nursing on 17th April 2012 to deliver a talk on the concepts of organ donation and shared the real life stories of organ donors. She spoke about the role of nurses in organ donation coordination and the challenges faced in each step of coordination. The role of the coordinator (donor and recipient) was explained in detail. She also discussed the follow up of patients - pre and post transplant.

     

    Details about “Transplant Coordinators Training Program” and its curriculum were given. The experiences of trained transplant coordinators who are in the field were shared to motivate the nurses.

     

    At the end of the talk, 43 persons including nursing college faculty and students pledged for Donor Cards.
