Organ Donation Awareness for NSS Students of Government Ayurvedic College, Nagpur

  • Dr. Ravi Wankhede – Hon. Director of MOHAN Foundation was invited to deliver a talk on organ donation and transplantation for the NSS students and staff of Government Ayurvedic College in Sakkardara, Nagpur on 29th September 2021. Dr. Sunil Topre, the NSS In-charge of the institution had organized the talk and invited Dr. Wankhede.

    Dr. Wankhede covered the following points during his talk:

    • Introduction to MOHAN Foundation and its operations
    • Criteria to donate organs
    • Difference between coma and brain death
    • Difference between natural death and drain death
    • The organ donation process
    • Organs and tissues that can be donated after natural death and brain death
    • Role of ZTCC
    • Role of NOTTO, ROTTO and SOTTO in organ donation and transplantation
    • Transplant Law
    • Importance of donor card
    • Using MOHAN Foundation’s helpline number and website

    Questions raised by students:

    • Whom to contact for organ donation?
    • How many organs and tissues can be donated after brain death?

    Around 100 students attended the talk, and 50 expressed their willingness to register as organ donors. The Foundation is thankful to Dr. Topre and the institution for the opportunity.
