

Mr. Arun Satpathy, President of the Odiya Samaj, Chandramani Nagar in Nagpur invited Mr. Bulu Behera of MOHAN Foundation to deliver a talk on organ donation and transplantation on 17th January 2021 for the Samaj members.
Mr. Behera explained the process of organ and tissue donation while living and after death as per the THO Act 1994. He gave brief history of organ donation in the country and explained the roles of NOTTO, ROTTO, SOTTO and ZTCC.
He gave information about living and deceased donors (circulatory death and brain death), brain death and its causes and how a brain-dead person can save the lives of 8 people by donating his/ her organs and improve the lives of as many as 50 people by donating tissues.
Mr. Behera mentioned that while organ donation is very common in developed countries, very few people in India donate organs as they are not aware of the subject. MOHAN Foundation has been spreading awareness through its various centres in the country.
At the end of the talk pamphlets were distributed. Around 60 participants were present; 20 of them took pledge forms and 15 signed consent form for organ donation.
