Organ Donation Awareness at Lakshmeshwara Taluk, Karnataka

  • Mrs. Ranjini Shankar MS received a call from Smt. Rajeshwari Shashi (Director, Mahathapasvi Seva Trust) to conduct an awareness session for the members of Ranichennamma Women’s Association Trust in Lakshmeshwara Taluk (Gadag district).

    Mrs. Ranjini, Project Manager and Mr. Marulappa L N, Transplant Coordinator of MOHAN Foundation conducted an interactive session and set up an all-day help desk on 11th December 2021 at Lakshmeshwara. Around 120 members attended the session and even more visited the help desk.

    Mrs. Ranjini received the blessings of Sri Paramapoojya Avadhoota Sri Sri Kavigururaja Guruji (Founder of Sri Mahathapasvi Seva Trust) and began the session by introducing MOHAN Foundation, its mission and vision; the concept of organ and tissue donation; types of death - cardiac death and brain death; brain death declaration; and procedures of deceased and living organ donation.

    Mrs. Ranjini then elaborated on the procedure of eye, skin, and bone donation by showing the pictures of the cornea of the eye and other organs as well through the placard boards; briefly explained the role of Jeevasarthakathe; touched upon the transplant law and the importance of a donor card. Myths and facts, and barriers to organ donation were highlighted as well.

    Sri Paramapoojya Avadhoota Sri Sri Kavigururaja Guruji, appreciated the session and asked us to conduct one more session in the evening at the temple for another group of people including the members of Mahathapasvi Seva Trust.

    Around 112 people signed up as organ donors during the event. MOHAN Foundation is thankful to Smt. Gangamma – President, Ranichennamma Women’s Association Trust and Smt. Rajeshwari Shashi, Director of Sri Mahathapasvi Seva Trust for the opportunity.
