Organ Donation Awareness Walkathon conducted at Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh

  • On the occasion of National Organ Donation Day, a Walkathon followed by an awareness session was conducted by Jeevandan in association with KIMS hospital where Ms. Sadika Safeena from MOHAN Foundation coordinated the programme.

    The walkathon was started at Rajvihar junction to Swarna auditorium which covered a distance of 2kms. It was graced by Dr. K Rambabu (Director - VIMS & Chief Transplant Coordinator- Jeevandan, Andhra Pradesh),  Dr. Y G Manoj Kumar (Consultant – Urology Department KIMS Hospital , Kurnool) &  Sheik Hafiz Khan(MLA)

    It drew 300 participants including the intensive care professionals and critical care staff from different hospitals in Kurnool.Chief guest K. Ram Gopal Reddy (MLA) was present who discussed about the importance of Organ Donation.

    & Dr. K Rambabu continued the session who gave a detailed insight into Andhra Pradesh’s role in the field of organ donation and transplantation and started the session by asking a few introductory questions on Organ Donation 

    The topics covered were –

    • Organ donation and its need in the society
    • About Jeevandan & its work
    • Criteria for Organ Donation
    • Organs that can be donated during life and after death
    • Transplant waiting list in India
    • Brain death
    • Difference between brain death and coma
    • How to register an organ donor

    Following this, a small play on Organ Donation was enacted for the participants to raise awareness on Organ Donation. The session ended by felicitating the donor families and an information desk was set up where in several individuals pledged for organ donation
