  • On July 19, 2025, Mr. Gabriel Pereira, Organ Donation Ambassador with MOHAN Foundation, conducted an organ donation awareness session during the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) meeting at Holy Cross High School, Siolim, Goa.

Earlier in the month, Gabriel had met Sr. Julie Rodrigues scc, Headmistress of the school, to discuss conducting a session for the tenth-grade students. Sr. Rodrigues suggested addressing the PTA as well to inform parents about organ donation.

The session began with Dr. Fr. Edison Fernandes, who spoke on drug abuse and the role of parenting. During the event, the PTA also honoured 41 students who had excelled in the SSC examination.

Using a PowerPoint presentation, Mr. Pereira covered key aspects of organ and tissue donation. He explained which organs and tissues can be donated in cases of circulatory and brain stem death, provided a medical definition of brain stem death, and clarified the differences between coma and brain stem death. Two videos were screened: one explaining brain death and another, a short animated presentation on organ donation in English by Shweta Gupta.

The session concluded with Mr. Pereira expressing gratitude to Sr. Julie Rodrigues scc, the teachers, and the parents for facilitating the session and supporting the cause of organ donation.

Approximately 700 parents and several teachers attended the session. At the end of the talk, Gabriel distributed flyers addressing frequently asked questions on organ donation.
