Updated on Tuesday, July 22, 2025
  • On July 18, 2025, Mr. Gabriel Pereira, Organ Donation Ambassador with MOHAN Foundation, conducted an awareness session on organ donation for Class X students at St. Andrew High School, Goa Velha.

Gabriel introduced himself and the work of MOHAN Foundation (Multi-Organ Harvesting Aid Network), explaining that he conducts awareness talks and sets up information desks across Goa. Emphasising that the message of organ donation should go beyond the auditorium, he highlighted that one donor can save eight lives and enhance the quality of life for over fifty people through tissue donation. He encouraged students to share this message with their families and friends, distributing flyers containing frequently asked questions on organ donation.

The session featured a PowerPoint presentation with videos explaining brain death, guidance on obtaining and using an organ donor card, and a testimonial by Ms. Shreya Siddanagowder. Gabriel also shared the trailer of the film Aye Zindagion YouTube to illustrate the impact of organ donation. He discussed the differences between circulatory and brain death, the organs and tissues that can be donated, and voluntary body donation, including information on hospitals that accept body donations.

To engage the students, Gabriel asked if they knew which hospitals in Goa perform transplants and which organs or tissues are transplanted. After hearing their responses, he explained that currently, kidney and corneal transplants are the only transplants performed in the state.

Gabriel concluded by expressing his gratitude to Ms. Joyce, Principal of St. Andrew High School, for facilitating the session and supporting the cause of organ donation.

The session was attended by approximately 80 students and several teachers.
