On July 14, 2025, Mr. Gabriel Pereira, Organ Donation Ambassador from MOHAN Foundation, conducted an awareness talk on organ donation during the Pernem Deanery Priestly Meeting at St. Francis Xavier Church, Maina-Corgao, Goa.
The audience comprised priests from eight parishes within the Pernem Deanery, North Zone. This session followed an earlier talk Mr. Pereira delivered for the Deans of the Archdiocese of Goa in July 2024. The Archdiocese is divided into North, Central, and South Zones, encompassing 19 deaneries and approximately 159 parishes.
The Dean, Rev. Fr. Rolland Lin Fernandes, Parish Priest of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Arambol, welcomed Gabriel and shared the purpose of inviting him to speak on this important cause.
Mr. Pereira shared his personal journey and motivation for promoting organ donation, inspired by his sister-in-law’s battle with renal failure and the life-saving transplant she received. This experience ignited his commitment to spreading awareness in Goa.
He encouraged the priests to invite him to their parishes to conduct awareness sessions, noting that July is Organ Donation Month, culminating in Indian Organ Donation Day on August 3, 2025. The awareness session, typically lasting an hour, includes a PowerPoint presentation.
Around 10 priests attended the talk, receiving informational materials and a “Donate Organs, Save Lives” poster for display on church notice boards. Gabriel proposed conducting parish-level awareness sessions to further engage communities.
The session covered brain death, circulatory death, and potential for organ donation, along with information about transplant hospitals in Goa.
Gabriel expressed his gratitude to Rev. Fr. Rolland Lin Fernandes for the opportunity to conduct the awareness session on behalf of MOHAN Foundation.
