Organ Donation Awareness Talk at Jesus, Mary and Joseph Church, Nuvem, Goa

Updated on Monday, February 2, 2026
  • On Sunday, February 1, 2026, Mr. Gabriel Pereira, an Organ Donation Ambassador with the MOHAN Foundation, delivered an inspiring awareness talk on organ donation to members of the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) at Jesus, Mary and Joseph Church, Nuvem, Goa, during their monthly meeting.

Mr. Pereira began by introducing himself and sharing his personal journey that led him to become an ambassador for organ donation. His commitment was deeply influenced by his sister-in-law’s battle with renal failure, which ultimately required a life-saving kidney transplant. This experience ignited his passion for spreading awareness and educating people in Goa about the importance of organ donation.

He informed the council members that kidney and corneal transplants are currently being performed in Goa and shared information about the transplant hospitals in the state. He also highlighted that there are presently 82 patients on the transplant waiting list in Goa.

Mr. Pereira requested the Parish Priest to circulate a video of the presentation through the parish WhatsApp group. The video included an animated short film by Shweta Gupta, an explainer on brain death, and a film produced by ROTTO/SOTTO Mumbai, all aimed at helping parishioners better understand the concept and process of organ donation. He also urged the PPC members to invite him back to address the parishioners in greater detail, as the limited time during the meeting did not allow him to cover all aspects of the subject.

At the conclusion of the session, flyers containing frequently asked questions and a QR code for pledging to donate organs were distributed to approximately 35 attendees.

Mr. Pereira expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Rev. Fr. Vital Miranda, Parish Priest of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Church, as well as the Moderator and members of the Parish Pastoral Council, for providing the opportunity to discuss this vital and life-saving cause on behalf of the MOHAN Foundation.
