  • On March 18, 2026, MOHAN Foundation, in association with Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Porompat, conducted an organ donation awareness talk at the Medicine Outpatient Department (OPD), JNIMS. Ms. Moirangthem Priya Devi, and Mr. Elangbam Paringanba Singh, Program Executives, represented MOHAN Foundation.

The session began with Ms. Priya introducing the team to the participants. She then provided a detailed overview of organ donation and transplantation, explaining the different organs and tissues that can be donated and clearly differentiating between living and deceased donation. She also spoke about the current status of organ donation in Manipur, mentioning that kidney transplant services are available in the government sector at both RIMS and JNIMS.

Members of the Manipur Rifles were also present during the session. Ms. Priya explained the important role of the police in cases involving medico-legal (MLC) deceased organ donation, particularly in ensuring proper legal procedures and facilitating necessary clearances. She also highlighted that Manipur became the first state in the North East to successfully conduct an MLC organ donation, which took place in February 2026 at Shija Hospital and Research Institute Private Limited (SHRI), marking a significant achievement for the region.

Ms. Priya further discussed the gap between the demand for and availability of organs in the state and encouraged participants to actively promote awareness about deceased organ donation. She addressed common myths and misconceptions, emphasising that organ donation has the potential to save lives and offer hope to many patients in need.

The session concluded with an expression of appreciation for the participants’ engagement, and they were encouraged to consider pledging their organs. Informational pamphlets were distributed to enhance understanding and address any remaining questions.

Nearly 30 participants attended the session and gained valuable insights into organ donation.
