  • On July 30, 2025, Mr. Gabriel Pereira, an Organ Donation Ambassador with MOHAN Foundation, conducted an awareness session on organ donation for students at Agnel Polytechnic, Verna, Goa.

The session was conducted in three batches in their respective classrooms: the first at 10:00 AM for final-year students of Electronics and Communication Engineering and Civil Engineering; the second at 11:15 AM for students of Electrical and Electronics Engineering; and the third at 12:15 PM for second-year Electronics and Communication Engineering students. Approximately 150 students attended the sessions, each accompanied by their class teachers.

Using a PowerPoint presentation, Mr. Pereira covered key topics such as the organs and tissues that can be donated in cases of circulatory and brain stem death, the concept of brain stem death, the difference between coma and brain stem death, and the process of pledging to be an organ donor. He also distributed a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) handout and emphasized the importance of informing one’s family about the decision to donate organs.

To make the session interactive, Mr. Pereira asked students whether they were aware of which hospitals in Goa perform transplants and what types of organs or tissues are involved. Based on their responses, he informed them that currently, only kidney and corneal transplants are carried out in the state.

He also highlighted that July is observed as Organ Donation Month, culminating in Indian Organ Donation Day on August 3, 2025.

Additionally, Mr. Pereira shared the trailer of the film Aye Zindagi on YouTube to illustrate the transformative impact of organ donation.

He expressed his gratitude to Dr. Rickey T. P. Nunes, Principal of Agnel Polytechnic, for the opportunity to conduct the awareness session on behalf of MOHAN Foundation.
