On January 28, 2026, MOHAN Foundation, in association with the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Imphal, conducted an organ donation awareness talk at the General Outpatient Department (OPD) of JNIMS as part of its ongoing public education and outreach initiatives.
The session was facilitated by Ms. Moirangthem Priya Devi and Mr. Elangbam Paringanba Singh, Program Executives, MOHAN Foundation.
Ms. Priya commenced the session by providing an overview of MOHAN Foundation and its role in promoting ethical organ donation across the country. She explained the concept and significance of organ donation and highlighted its life-saving impact, particularly through deceased organ donation. She also differentiated between living and deceased donation, discussed the limitations associated with living donation, and emphasized key provisions of the Transplantation of Human Organs & Tissues Act (THOTA) 1994, noting that commercial organ trade is a punishable offence.
In addition, she explained the organ donor registration process and clarified that while individuals may pledge to donate their organs, consent from the family is mandatory for organ retrieval after death.
Informational leaflets on organ donation were distributed among the participants. Approximately 30 individuals attended the session and gained valuable knowledge and insights into organ donation and its importance.
