On 25.06.2026, an organ donation awareness session was successfully conducted at Telangana Model School and Junior College, Neeredugamu, Nalgonda District. The session was led by Venkatesh Kattela, Project Manager, under the aegis of the MOHAN Foundation, with the objective of educating and sensitizing students about the life-saving potential of organ and tissue donation.
The programme reached 220 students from Class VIII to Intermediate through an informative presentation followed by an interactive discussion. The session was carefully designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of organ and tissue donation while encouraging active participation and informed decision-making.
The programme comprehensively covered key topics, including:
• The role of the MOHAN Foundation in promoting organ donation awareness
• Meaning and types of organ and tissue donation (living and deceased donation)
• Difference between brain death and cardiac arrest
• Importance and scope of tissue donation, including cornea, skin, and bone donation
• Legal framework under the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act (THOTA), 1994
• Importance of carrying donor cards and obtaining family consent
• Addressing common myths, misconceptions, and cultural concerns related to organ and tissue donation
A key highlight of the session was the enthusiastic participation of the students. They actively engaged throughout the programme by asking thoughtful and insightful questions, reflecting their curiosity and genuine interest in understanding the significance of organ and tissue donation. Their active involvement made the session both informative and impactful.
The session also emphasized the importance of discussing organ donation with family members and making informed decisions, encouraging students to become ambassadors of awareness within their families and communities. Notably, 16 members from faculty pledged to donate their organs.
Overall, the awareness session was highly successful in enhancing knowledge, dispelling misconceptions, and fostering a sense of social responsibility among the students. The programme reinforced the importance of sustained awareness initiatives in building a well-informed and compassionate society committed to saving lives through organ and tissue donation.
