Organ Donation Awareness Session at Kasturba Gandhi Girls High School, Chandampet, Nalgonda District, Telangana

  • On 24.06.2026, an organ donation awareness session was successfully conducted during the afternoon at Kasturba Gandhi Girls High School, Chandampet, Nalgonda District. The session was led by Venkatesh Kattela, Project Manager, under the aegis of the MOHAN Foundation, with the objective of creating awareness among students and faculty members about the importance of organ and tissue donation.

    The programme reached 102 students and faculty members through an engaging awareness session comprising informative presentations and interactive discussions. The content was delivered in a simple, interactive, and informative manner, enabling participants to understand the medical, legal, and social aspects of organ donation.

    The programme comprehensively covered key topics, including:

    • The role of the MOHAN Foundation in promoting organ donation awareness
    • Meaning and types of organ and tissue donation (living and deceased donation)
    • Difference between brain death and cardiac arrest
    • Importance and scope of tissue donation, including cornea, skin, and bone donation
    • Legal framework under the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act (THOTA), 1994
    • Importance of carrying donor cards and obtaining family consent
    • Addressing common myths, misconceptions, and social concerns related to organ donation

    One of the highlights of the session was the active involvement of the students, who displayed genuine interest by asking insightful questions about organ and tissue donation. Their enthusiastic participation reflected a growing awareness and willingness to understand how organ donation can help save lives.

    The session also encouraged participants to share the knowledge gained with their families and friends, thereby extending the impact of organ donation awareness beyond the school environment. Notably, 10 members from faculty pledged to donate their organs.

    Overall, the programme was highly successful in enhancing awareness, clarifying misconceptions, and inspiring a sense of social responsibility among students and faculty members. The session reaffirmed the importance of sustained educational initiatives in creating a well-informed society that supports organ and tissue donation.
