  • On September 16, 2025, Mr. Gabriel Pereira, Organ Donation Ambassador with the MOHAN Foundation, conducted an awareness session on organ donation for first-year Arts and Commerce students at St. Xavier College, Mapusa, Goa.

The program was held in two batches, at 9:30 AM and 10:45 AM, and was attended by nearly 300 students along with their class teachers. During the break, NSS students performed a street play on organ donation, adding an engaging element to the day.

Through a PowerPoint presentation, Mr. Pereira highlighted key topics such as organs and tissues that can be donated after circulatory and brain stem death, the concept of brain stem death, the difference between coma and brain stem death, and the process of pledging to be an organ donor. He also distributed an FAQ handout and stressed the importance of sharing one’s decision to donate with family members.

To make the session interactive, he asked students if they were aware of which hospitals in Goa perform transplants and the types of organs or tissues involved. Based on their responses, he informed them that currently only kidney and corneal transplants are carried out in the state.

Mr. Pereira also shared the trailer of the film Aye Zindagi from YouTube to illustrate the life-changing impact of organ donation.

He expressed gratitude to Acting Principal Ms. Ursula Barreto, Convenor Ms. Gema Ataide, Mr. Sujay Rane, NSS Program Officer, and Fr. Antonio Salema, Administrator of the institute, for the opportunity to conduct the awareness session on behalf of the MOHAN Foundation.
