Organ Donation Awareness Session at Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) Training School, Nand Nagri Depot, New Delhi

  • On June 25, 2025, MOHAN Foundation (MF) conducted an organ donation awareness session for bus drivers at the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) Training School, Nand Nagri Depot, New Delhi. The session was conducted by Ms. Simran Anand and Ms. Sanya Santosh, Programme Officers, MOHAN Foundation, NCR.

     

    Ms. Sanya began by introducing MOHAN Foundation and engaging participants on their current understanding of organ donation. She then explained its basic concepts and significance. Ms. Simran followed with a detailed discussion on brain death and the steps involved in its declaration, elaborating on:

     

    • What is organ donation and why it is needed

    • Who can be an organ donor

    • Live and deceased donation

    • Organ donation during life and after death

    • Brain death

    • Eye donation and corneal preservation

    • The Human Organ Transplantation Act, 1994

    • The role of MOHAN Foundation

    • How individuals can contribute to the cause

    • Myths and facts about organ donation

    • Differences between coma and brain death

     

    During the session, a participant undergoing cancer treatment expressed his wish to become a corneal donor. He was informed about medical contraindications, including certain cancers and infectious diseases, but chose to register as a corneal donor and downloaded his donor card to encourage others.

     

    The session was attended by around 40 participants.
