Updated on Thursday, February 23, 2023
  • The MOHAN Foundation had put up a float for the carnival in Panjim on the 18th, Margao on the 19th, and Mapusa on the 21st of February 2023.

The Carnival usually starts off on Fat Saturday and concludes on Fat Tuesday, just before Ash Wednesday and the first day of the Catholic season of Lent.

In Panjim, the capital of Goa, the festival began on February 18 with a procession headed by King Momo. During Carnival, Goa is taken over by King Momo, usually a local resident who presides over the festival during the four-day span.

Panjim, Margao, and Mapusa witnessed a huge crowd of approximately 30,000+ people in each place, and there were lots of floats in the traditional, clown, sponsored, and club/ categories. MOHAN Foundation was the first of its kind in Goa to demonstrate the importance of "DONATE ORGANS, SAVE LIVES" through a float, where nearly 1000 flyers were distributed and people snapped photos and scanned the QR code.

Mr. Rohan Khaunte, Minister for Tourism, IT, E&C, Printing & Stationery, and MLA of Porvorim Constituency in Panjim; Mr. Digambar Kamat, MLA of Margao Constituency, along with the Carnival Committee President, Mr. Carmilo Barreto; and Mr. Joshua De Souza, MLA of Mapusa Constituency, supported the cause by holding the pledge card.

The float began at 4 p.m. and ended at 7.30 p.m. in all three locations.
