Organ Donation Ambassador Bridgit addresses Members of the Syro Malabar Youth Movement

  • Organ Donation Ambassador and Intern of MOHAN Foundation, Ms. Bridgit S, a Medical and Psychiatric Social Work student of Stella Maris College, delivered a virtual talk on organ and whole body donation on 13th November 2021. Around 26 members of the Syro Malabar Youth Movement (SMYM) of Aruvithura Forane were the audience. Ms. Bridgit was accompanied by Mr. Sachin Sunny, Transplant Coordinator at Lakeshore Hospital, Kochi.

    Concepts of organ donation, brain death and its difference from vegetative state, process of organ donation, organ donation laws in India, need for organ donation, method of registering oneself as an organ donor, and MOHAN Foundation’s role in promoting organ donation were covered in the talk. A brief introduction to whole body donation was also given to the participants.

    Mr. Sachin spoke about the myths and facts related to organ donation and cleared the doubts of the participants. The group was very interactive and shared their feedback as many of them were attending this kind of session for the first time. The group requested for more talks on organ donation and programs for the public, especially youth, to create awareness to be organised. Many of them expressed their willingness to pledge their organs.

    Ms. Bridgit expressed her gratitude to the coordinators of SMYM Thidanadu Unit and to the unit members of SMYM Aruvithura Forane for organizing the awareness program. On behalf of MOHAN Foundation, Ms. Ishwarya, Research Associate thanked the audience, SMYM and Mr. Sachin for their support as the session concluded.
