National Organ Donation day celebrated at at Don Bosco Vazhikaatti, Chennai

  • Don Bosco Vazhikaatti was established in 1997 to create and enable an optimistic learning environment for the poor youth through short term skill building programs. MOHAN Foundation was given an opportunity to create awareness on Organ Donation on August 03, 2023 National Organ Donation day for around 50 students. 

    Ms. Arshiya Fathima. H  (Helpline counselor) was the resource person for the session. Mrs. Sindhu (Center Manager), Ms. Jeniffer (Trainer)  welcomed Ms Arshiya. 

    Ms. Arshiya Fathima. H began the session with a quiz based on movies depicting organ donation. She then elaborated on the Concepts of Organ Donation and Transplantation which included who, what and when donation can happen, Brain Death, skin and eye donation, voluntary body donation. It was a very interactive session with students. A video explaining Brain death was played. At the end to emphasize the value of the Gift of Life a recipient testimonial video was also played. 

    The students were interactive throughout the session and they asked many questions

    1. Can people with diabetes and cancer can donate the organs? 
    2. After  a death  at home, how can family members reach eye bank?
    3. Can a 2 years child can be a heart donor ?  
    4. Can a recipient  see the donor family?

    All there questions were answered by the speaker.  The session ended with the Vote of Thanks by Jeniffer (Trainer).
