NSS Volunteers learn about organ Donation

  • On 19th July 2014, Mrithasanjeevani (KNOS) and MOHAN Foundation organized an awareness talk on organ donation for National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers from St.Thomas College, Kozhencherry, Pathanamthitta as per the request from their NSS programme officer Dr. Praveen. 


    These NSS volunteers decided to mould their college campus as 100% organ donation campus. They have made spreading organ donation awareness as their main objective.  The programme was held at Seminar hall  in the Super Specialty Block (SSB), Medical College Hospital, Trivandrum.


    The programme started with the welcome speech delivered by Mr. Akash Manohar, Project Manager, MOHAN Foundation, Kerala. In his talk he mentioned about KNOS structure, website of KNOS and MOHAN Foundation. It was followed by Mr. Aneesh P. V, Transplant Coordinator, KNOS gave presentation on organ donation and organ transplantation. In his talk he covered the following topics:

    • Mrithasanjeevani
    • Activities of KNOS
    • Organ donation and religious belief.
    • Types of Organ Donation - Live and Deceased Donation
    • Difference between Brain death, Coma and natural death
    • Tissues and organs  that can be donated 
    • Importance of Donor card 


    20 NSS volunteers and  their programme officer attended the programme. All of them took the donor card and also the programme officer invited Mrithasanjeevani to deliver an awareness talk on organ donation for 85 teachers and  other staff in their college. By the end of the talk organ donation awareness movie was screened.
