Motivating Talk on Organ Donation for students of Pachayappan Arts & Science College

  • On 3rd February 2014, Pachayappan Arts & Science College, National Service Scheme (NSS), Chennai initiated a awareness programme for their students. Mr. R. Dinesh Kumar, Programme Coordinator (NSS) invited Cadaver Transplant Programme to give an awareness talk & Stall on Organ Donation.  Mr. Prakash K. & Mr. Jeyabal M, Transplant Coordinators were deputed from MOHAN Foundation to speak on the programme.

     

    The programme began with a welcome address by Mr. Dr. P. Gajivarathan, he explained the importance of event. Mr. Prakash K. spoke about the Concepts of Organ Donation.

     

    The following topics were covered during the talk:

    • Activities of MOHAN Foundation across the country to strengthen the Deceased Organ Donation programme
    • Types of Organ Donation - Live and Deceased Donation
    • Difference between Brain death and Coma
    • Importance of the consent from the family
    • Importance of Donor card 
    • Tissues and organs  that can be donated
    • Transplant Coordinators Training Programme

     

    Soon after the talk the transplant coordinators put an information stall in front of the college gate. Totally 515 students picked donor card and supported the cause and four students became volunteers. At the end of the programme the Dr. R. Lakshmanan gave a vote of thanks and asked the transplant coordinator to conduct another programme during their NSS camp in the second week of February.
