Manitham Trust leads a way for organ donation awareness for residents of Manali Puthu Nagar

• Manitham Trust is non government organization working for the betterment of slums and environment. The trust initiated an awareness programme on organ donation in their community on 26 August 2014. Mr. Subramanian, Trustee of the Trust invited Cadaver Transplant Programme (CTP) to conduct the session and Mr. Prakash K. Transplant Coordinator  of MOHAN Foundation, Chennai facilitated in the programme. 

   

  The programme began with a welcome address by Mr. Subramanian explained the importance of event then followed by organ donation talk by Mr.Prakash K.

  The following topics were covered in the session;

  • Activities of MOHAN Foundation across the country to strengthen the Deceased Organ Donation programme
  • Types of Organ Donation - Live and Deceased Donation
  • Difference between Brain death and Coma
  • Importance of the consent from the family
  •  Importance of pledge forms and cards  
  • What are the tissues and organs can be donated
  • How whole body can be donated

   

  60 people attended the programme and 35 picked donor card and rest of them filled whole body donation form.
