MOHAN Foundation participates in the Third Collaborative Conclave for Organ Donation

  • On November 29, 2018, MOHAN Foundation participated in the Third Collaborative Conclave for organ donation, organized by ORGAN India, held at Juniper Hall, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The Chief Guest for the celebration was Dr. Vasanthi Ramesh, Director, NOTTO, DGHS, MoHFW, GOI. Also present were Dr Promila Gupta (Principal Consultant, DGHS, MoHFW), Dr Harsha Jauhari (Technical Advisor, NOTP, DGHS, MoHFW), Dr Anil Kumar ( Additional DDG, DGHS, MoHFW), Dr Sanjay Aggarwal ( Chief Advisor: Website, NOTTO) and other members of NOTTO.

     

    Other organizations and NGOs that participated in the conclave were ROTTO Chandigarh, Apex Kidney Foundation, DadhichiDeh Dan Samiti, A Million Pledges, gift of Life Adventure, Milaap, Muskan Foundation, Smile Foundation, Lady HardingeMedical College, MOTHER and Zubilee Foundation to name a few.

     

    The conclave began with the lighting of lamps and paying a tribute to Mrs. KirtiParasher, mother of Ms. AnikaParashar (Founder Trustee, ORGAN India, Parashar Foundation).This was followed by an introduction from all the participants and a welcome address by the chief guest.

     

    Presentations were given on the following topics:

    • Ethics & Rules in Organ Donation and incentives for donor families or organ donation pledge takers
    • Swap Donations- How to make them more effective
    • Role of NGOs in promoting body donation
    • School awareness programme by a million pledges
    • Raising awareness on organ donation- What to focus on
    • Role of crowd funding in organ donation- How to raise funds
    • Promoting organ donation in the curriculum of medical colleges
    • Challenges and way forward

     

    Ms. Pallavi Kumar (Executive Director, MF) made a presentation on how NGOs can partner with hospitals in their states and help set up a deceased donation program in these hospitals.

     

    There was an open discussion amongst the participants on topics like:

    • Protocol for NGOs to be given recognition on the NOTTO website
    • Funding for NGOs from SOTTOs, ROTTO and NOTTO
    • How to address growing trust gap that impedes organ donation
    • Issues on the NOTTO website and helpline
    • Organ donation promotion- Focus shift from public to hospitals

     

    The conclave ended with a vote of thanks to all the participants.
