   On March 4th, 2023, MOHAN Foundation (MF) was invited to conduct an awareness session on organ donation for the students of Vignan Institute of Pharmaceutical Technology, Duvvada – Visakhapatnam. Dr. Sadika Safeena, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation, was the resource person.

  The session began with the introduction of Dr.Sadika & about MOHAN Foundation. Dr. Sadika then began the session by asking participant’s understanding about organ donation. She then explained the basic concepts of organ donation and transplantation with the help of a PowerPoint presentation. The following topics were explained in detail: 

  • Organ donation and its need in the society
  • Types of death – Cardiac death & Brain stem death
  • When and how does organ donation take place
  • Organs that can be donated during life and after death
  • Transplant waiting list in India
  • Brain death
  • Causes of brain death
  • Difference between brain death and coma
  • Role of MOHAN Foundation
  • Contraindications to organ donation
  • Myths and facts about organ donation
  • Eye donation
  • Donor & Recipient stories.
  • How to register to get a transplant & discussed about Jeevandan Andhra Pradesh

  Over all the session was very interactive where participants enthusiastically contributed to the discussion and asked many queries. To name a few:

  • When a patient is declared brain dead, can the ventilator be turned off? 
  • Organs can be donated if a person dies on the spot after an accident?
  • Can a transplanted organ again be donated to save lives?

  Celebrate life and Live life varun size videos were displayed to motivate the audience and Dr.Sadika was given a momento as a token of appreciation for delivering a guest lecture on Organ  and Cadaveric Donations.
