On July 30, 2025, MOHAN Foundation, in association with Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Imphal, conducted an awareness session on organ donation at Kshetri Makha Leikai, Imphal-East, Manipur. The session was led by Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Project Coordinator (Northeast) and Project Lead (Manipur), along with Mr. Bidyananda Laishram, Senior Program Executive, and Mrs. Thaudem Mayarani Devi, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation.
The programme was coordinated by Mr. Gailian Kamei, Transplant Coordinator at JNIMS Hospital, and Mrs. Premlata, Nurse In-Charge at Kshetrigao Urban Primary Health Centre, with support from the faculty and students of the Department of Community Medicine, JNIMS Hospital.
Mr. Bidyananda Laishram introduced MOHAN Foundation and delivered sessions on the topics “What is Organ Donation?” and “Donation after Brain Death.” He emphasized the importance of deceased organ donation and its life-saving impact on society. He also explained the difference between living and deceased organ donation and discussed the types of organs that can be donated.
Further, he provided insights into cornea and kidney donation in Manipur and addressed common myths and misconceptions related to organ donation, highlighting facts to foster better understanding.
He concluded the session by emphasizing that organ donation transcends religious and caste boundaries, noting that no faith or community opposes the act of donation. He encouraged participants to become ambassadors of the cause by spreading awareness in their communities.
Approximately 20 participants attended the session and gained valuable insights into the significance and process of organ donation.
