On July 2, 2025, MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session on organ donation at ACME College of Nursing, Hiyang Hiren Leirak, Palace Compound, Imphal-East, Manipur. The session was held for nursing students and faculty members and was led by Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Project Co-ordinator (Northeast) cum Project Lead (Manipur), along with Mr. Bidyananda Laishram, Senior Program Executive, and Mrs. Thaudem Mayarani Devi, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation.
The programme was organised in consultation with Prof. Ningombam Nalinibala Devi, Principal, and Prof. Yengkhom Rinaji Devi, Vice Principal, ACME College of Nursing.
Mr. Bidyananda Laishram opened the session with an introduction to MOHAN Foundation’s vision and mission. Ms. Monica then led the main session, highlighting the critical role healthcare professionals play in organ donation and its life-saving impact. She covered key aspects of organ donation, including organ failure and its implications, the current status in India with a focus on Manipur, and the gap between organ demand and availability.
She also discussed the types of organ donation, donor eligibility, and recent advances in transplantation, including hand transplants. To address public misconceptions, she clarified common myths and explained the differences between circulatory death, brain death, and coma. The process for pledging and registering for organ donation was explained to encourage active participation.
An interactive segment was held to engage students and assess their knowledge and attitudes towards organ donation. The session concluded with the distribution of information pamphlets on organ donation.
A total of 12 participants attended the session, and the students expressed a positive willingness to support organ donation initiatives.
