Students studying in 9th to 12th standards at CPS Global School, Anna Nagar, Chennai were treated to a fact and fun talk on Organ Donation to celebrate Organ Donation Day. On 13th August 2018 at noon, Dr. Hemal Kanvinde and Ms. Shaila introduced the 60 students to the work of MOHAN Foundation and to the Concepts of Organ Donation.
Dr. Hemal Kanvinde first distributed green ribbons and information brochures to all the students and asked them a few questions about the topic. She then gave a short presentation of the history of the organization, the work done so far and the geographical spread of the organization. She also gave them ideas on how students can promote Organ Donation.
The talk on the Concepts of Organ Donation covered the following in detail:
1. Organs and their functions
2. Transplant Law for Organ Donation in India
3. Organs that can be donated in each stage (Living, Cardiac Death and Brain Death)
4. Brain Death and its causes
5. Functions of Brain Stem
6. Myths on Organ Donation
7. Age Criteria in Organ Donation
8. Helpline Number on Organ Donation
The speaker also conducted a fun quiz on the topic of Organ Donation and medical facts. Winners were given bands and badges. Students enjoyed the session completely with the quiz. The session went on for one hour. Ms. Deepa the student coordinator and the students formally thanked MOHAN Foundation and the session ended with a group photo.
